Our youth wrestling season will start on Thursday, December 1st and continue every Tuesday and Thursday until March 9th. This program is for boys and girls of all experience levels in grades K-6. Online-registration link is above.
All Tuesday and Thursday practices will be held at the Curby Training Center (CTC) in Troy. Each practice will be with Joe Uccellini and Lenny Baker. Coach Uccellini is the Team USA U15 National Coach and the 2022 Masters Greco Roman Nation Champion. Coach Baker is an NCAA National Champion from Brockport University.
Practices will run from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the CTC with additional practices every Saturday in the Averill Park High School wrestling room. These practices will be led by wrestling alumni, Mason Lumbra and Oliver (Oli) Donahue. Saturday practices (and only Saturday practices) will be separated into two age groups. Kindergarten and first graders will practice from 9-10 AM and Grades 2-6 will practice from 10-11 AM.
For K-1 graders there will also be a registration option for Saturdays only.
Optional Competitions: During the season there will be five Saturdays where your wrestler will have the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned. These will be “Friendly” tournaments held at the Curby Training Center. These are fun events without the stress and intensity of a typical youth tournament. The optional competitions are Dec. 17th, Jan 7th, Jan 21st, Feb 4th, and Feb 18th. These events are optional and typically cost $10 per event. There will be no practices held at AP on the 5 Saturdays listed above as the coaches will be there with any of you that choose to go.
The cost for this season will be $220. This includes the facility use fees, USA Wrestling insurance cards for each wrestler, coach licensing and background check fees and a custom-sublimated shirt with each wrestler’s name on the back. All together there will be 35 instruction sessions plus the 5 optional competitions that a coach will attend. If you choose the K-1st grade Saturdays only option, there will be 7 Saturday practices, with the option of attending the 5 optional competitions, the cost will be $75. Practice time will be the same as the full-time K-1 group (9-10 AM).
Discounts are given for multiple family members (50% off for any additional family members). I you are experiencing financial difficulties, please reach out to Jamie Hanlon (518-258-0019).
The season ends with an exciting youth tournament held at Averill Park High School. This year our tournament, called the “Interstate Youth Wrestling Challenge,” will be held on Saturday, March 11th. That same day we also host an Open/Old-Timers tournament, so if any of you want to dust off the old wrestling shoes and compete, have at it! The following day is our high school Freestyle & Greco Roman Tournament. The tournament weekend is one of our biggest fundraisers and we will need your help to volunteer your time. As the event approaches, we will be reaching out for any help you can provide.
