AP Warriors Take 1st Place at Schenectady Tournament...Again!

To take home the team title at a wrestling tournament, it requires a total team effort. That is exactly what the Averill Park Varsity Wrestling team delivered at the 2020 Schenectady Invitational. The team finished first out of the 20 teams who attended and brought home the team trophy to APHS. All twelve wrestlers AP entered in the tournament contributed at least one win to the team score.

Leading the way for the Warriors was Sean Malenfant, whom not only came in first in his weight class but once again was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the whole tournament. Only a junior, Sean broke the school win record in the finals with his 131st victory. Also bringing home individual gold was Chad Rist whom, as is becoming the norm, pinned his way to a first place finish.

Joining them on the podium were 2nd place finishers Nick Tempel and Mason Lumbra and 3rd place finishers Alex Cooper and Dominick Paradise. Additionally, Nathan Fischer and Colin Catlin each had 3 victories on the day to place in 5th and 6th place respectively. Adding in wins by Jacob Hanlon, Colin Brunelle, Jacob White and Michael Steen and the team title in this demanding all day tournament went to Averill Park for the second time in the last three years!
